Memorial Day Weekend in Newport
We rented a great vacation home in Newport, Oregon for Memorial Day weekend. We were only staying two nights (Friday and Saturday) but we should have stayed longer it was so nice. The house was a few blocks from the beach although you had to find a secret passage to a set of stairs to get down to the beach. It had three bedrooms and three bathrooms and the living room and kitchen were upstairs so you could see the ocean. After a nice walk on the beach we had dinner at the Chowder Bowl in Nye Beach.

The next day we went to the Newport Aquarium. Katie had a great time seeing the sea lions and the otters and all the fish. She even touched an anemone and a star fish and a small crocodile. I enjoyed the displays with the jelly fish.

Afterwards we stopped at the Rogue Brewery to pick up some beer. They just had a huge sale going. Then we drove south to Yachats where we had lunch at the Drift Inn. I remembered the food being a lot better than it was. On the way back we stopped at Seal Rock. We walked down to the beach and let Katie play with her shovel and bucket. My dad found a little Buzz Lightyear.

In the evening we went to downtown Newport to see the sea lions and the sunset. The dinner we had was kind of disappointing but the view was good.

The next day we checked out and visited the Yaquina Head light house before making our way up the coast to Tillamook. We stopped for a late lunch at the Pelican Brewery and then we bought some cheese at the Tillamook cheese factory. Finally we drove to the Nehalem bay winery and picked up some bottles of wine before driving home.
