Mt. Tabor family session

While I have been taking digital photos for years, I have always dabbled more in landscapes and flowers. One of the goals of setting up my blog was to challenge myself and learn new skills, in particular portrait photography. So I've taken it upon myself to start practicing on friends and their family. I had the good fortune of meeting my friend Elizabeth, her husband Tim and their beautiful kids Jonah and Leah for a family session at Mt. Tabor Park. We were there on a Sunday afternoon around 5pm. The cloudy skies were perfect, but it also meant that we were losing light fast. Add to that toddlers who would rather be playing or biking than having their pictures taken, and you can see this is not as easy as it sounds.

I seriously respect professional portrait photographers a whole lot more now (even though I already had a lot of respect for them before). You have to think about so many things, interesting locations and vantage points, posing, making sure everybody looks at the camera, getting your settings right so everybody is in focus, and then editing the photos to make them look even better. After about an hour of taking photos we were done and I went home with plenty of shots to choose from. From there I chose the best shots. You can see them below.

It definitely was a learning experience for me and I had a great time! And I'm pretty proud of these pictures.

About Me

I love photography. My favorite subjects are my husband and my daughter. My family calls me Photomom. I'm trying to improve my photography and photo editing skills. In the past I have focused on travel, landscapes and macros and I'm expanding my subject matter to include portraits. I've created this blog to share my photos with family and friends and to track my progress.
